in Penn Station's main waiting room.
Ride Newark's historic, sleek City Subway to Branch Brook Park.
Stroll amid hundreds of flowering cherry trees, one of the nation's biggest
displays.
Walk through the Forest Hill Historic District, an increasingly desirable
neighborhood.
Look into four fine homes, including 1712 Sydenham House -- oldest dwelling
in Newark.
Walk back through the park, and return to Penn Station via the subway.
TIME: Start at 12 noon, end at about 5 p.m.
COST: $15 for NPLC members, $20 for others. Payable at the event.

MOTHER'S DAY IN NEWARK -- Sunday, May 14
Board the charter bus at The Newark Museum, 49 Washington
St. (parking available).
Then explore five very different churches:
-- New Hope Baptist, with a renowned gospel choir (Whitney Houston's alma
mater).
-- Sacred Heart Cathedral Basilica, whose soaring sanctuary is one of
the largest in the nation..
-- Hopewell Baptist, which occupies the massive former B'nai Jeshurun
Synagogue.
--.St. Casimir's in the Ironbound, a gorgeous church serving a large Polish
congregation.
Box lunches in the parish hall -- choose tuna, roast beef, or ham and
cheese.
-- First Baptist Peddie Memorial, a Victorian masterpiece with restored
Tiffany windows
Return to The Museum in time to view its exhibit of "New Women"
in art.
Finally, dine on your own at a fine restaurant -- guides will have lists
of recommendations.
TIME: Start at 10 a.m., end about 3:30 p.m.
